Computer use tool

OpenAI's computer use tool on the Responses API, for developers building their own control loop. The earlier computer-use-preview path is deprecated.

The Computer-Using Agent capability offered directly to developers. Same underlying model as the consumer products, with the control loop left to you — OpenAI documents harnesses for both a Playwright browser and a Docker VM with a full desktop.

Watch out

You run the environment. OpenAI's own guidance is to keep it in an isolated browser or VM. OpenAI's own guide now recommends code execution for its newest model and describes the computer tool as remaining supported as an alternative — supported, but no longer the route being pushed.
