Anthropic takes computer use out of beta and splits off a browser tool

Computer use went GA as computer_toolset_20260801 with no beta header, and a separate browser use toolset launched the same day.

Anthropic moved five platform capabilities out of beta on the same day, and two of them are ours. Claude Computer Use is now generally available as the computer_toolset_20260801 toolset, with no beta header, batched actions — several in one turn — and zoom enabled by default.

The more interesting half is the new one. Claude Browser Use (browser_toolset_20260801) is a browser-only toolset that reads the page rather than a picture of it: read_page returns the accessibility tree with element references the model can act on by name, so a click targets an element rather than a coordinate that a layout shift can invalidate. It adds form input, tab management and download reporting on top.

Both toolsets run against a browser or desktop your own application hosts; nothing runs on Anthropic's side. Existing integrations pinned to computer_20251124 keep working but still need the beta header, and the request shape changed enough that Anthropic published a migration note.

Note the asymmetry in platform coverage. Computer use is documented on the Claude API, Claude Platform on AWS (beta), Amazon Bedrock (beta), Google Cloud and Microsoft Foundry (beta) — but platforms other than the Claude API and Google Cloud still offer only the earlier beta tool versions. Browser use is Claude API only.
