Anthropic

Claude Browser Use

Anthropic's browser-only toolset. Reads the page's accessibility tree and acts on named elements rather than pixel coordinates, in a browser your own application hosts.

Launched alongside the computer use GA on 19 August 2026, this is the narrower sibling: no desktop, just a browser viewport. The important difference is not scope but addressing — read_page returns element references the model can act on directly, so a click survives a layout shift that would break a coordinate. It adds form input, tab management and download reporting on top of ordinary screenshot-and-click control. Your application runs the browser; nothing runs on Anthropic's side.

Best for

Developers whose tasks stay inside webpages and who want element-level addressing rather than coordinates.

Watch out

You still host and sandbox the browser, and JavaScript execution, console and network reading are off by default for good reason. Platform coverage is narrower than computer use: Claude API and Google Cloud only.

Changelog

  1. Anthropic's SDKs ship base classes for the computer and browser toolsets
  2. Computer use and browser use land on Google Cloud
  3. Anthropic takes computer use out of beta and splits off a browser tool
