Google DeepMind
Project Mariner
Google's browser-agent research prototype. Reporting puts its shutdown at 4 May 2026 and DeepMind's model index no longer lists it.
Google's research prototype for an agent that browsed and acted on the web, released to AI Ultra subscribers in the US. It appears to be finished: DeepMind's model index no longer mentions it, and reporting dates the shutdown to 4 May 2026, with the capability folded into Gemini Spark and Chrome's auto browse rather than continued as a product.
Best for
Historical reference. The lineage continues in Gemini Spark and Chrome auto browse.
Watch out
Google published no retirement notice we could find, and at least one secondary source still described it as available to Ultra subscribers after the reported shutdown date. We mark it superseded and unconfirmed rather than pick a side. It was listed here as a live research preview until 8 October 2026, which was wrong — see the news log.
